Is this trip right for you?
verified
To complete this trip, it’s important that you’re both confident and competent in riding a bicycle. As the riding is mostly on sealed roads in varying states of repair, with the occasional gravel path, no technical cycling skills are required. But some downhill practice is a great idea before your trip.
verified
While the cycling distances on this trip are relatively short, the terrain of Sri Lanka is naturally hilly, so you’ll need to be reasonably fit, especially given the warm climate. This applies to the included activities which can add to the potential fatigue. The support vehicle will always be there if you need to take a break for an hour or a day.
verified
On this trip you have an expert cycling leader as well as a cycling guide/mechanic with you.
verified
Sri Lankan summers are very hot, with short, sharp monsoons in the southwest. Be sure to use adequate sun protection and drink plenty of water. The weather in this region also varies seasonally, so be prepared to get sweaty, and experience the occasional rainstorm, which may lead to a change of plans.
verified
If you have issues with heights, you might like to opt out of climbing the Lion Rock at Sigiriya (Day 6). There are lots of rough, narrow steps and tight walkways here.
verified
If you feel like doing all the riding but with less effort, you can hire an electric bike (e-bike) on this trip.
verified
Some temples on this trip require your head to be uncovered when visiting. You can opt out of temple visits if this requirement doesn't suit you.

Highly recommend this trip to anyone that enjoys biking, experiencing/learning about other cultures, and meeting some wonderful new friends. Just the right mix of physical activity, free-time, and travel time in van. If you are lucky enough to have Lochana "Lo" as your tour guide...I guarantee that you will have one of the best trips !! Lo is very knowledgeable about Sri Lanka history, culture, plants/animals...and she is genuinely interested in sharing that information in a fun and engaged manner. Pair that up with the very safe/experienced driving skills of Sanju and Pemmal, and the expertise of Kasun leading the bike rides...and that is a win-win. We often felt like we were the "tourist attraction"...as smiling kids (and adults) would be happily waving and shouting "hello" as we cycled by. Such a warm/friendly people in Sri Lanka (...and this just a few weeks after their island was devastated by a Typhoon). Overall a wonderful Sri Lanka holiday, with fond memories to last a lifetime !! This was my first ever vacation on a cycling trip and I absolutely loved it! I felt very connected to my surroundings, the people at the pace of cycling vs. in a vehicle. I knew very little about Sri Lanka prior to the trip and loved being immersed in this unknown portion of the world with so much to see and absorb. It has expanded my interest to learn more about world religions, history, culture that are different from my own. Everyone in our group and the guides were a pleasure to be around and have the shared social aspect brought additional momentum to much of what we did.

The Cycle Sri Lanka trip exceeded my expectations. Good balance of cycling and touring. Scenery and animals are spectacular! Ancient history, culturally interesting and the friendliest people you will ever meet! Shihan, Babi, Chami and Ruwan were the best guides and drivers! Thank you for an outstanding trip!
