Trip Informations
Journey through Egypt on this eight-day trip and follow the winding path of the river Nile, soaking up Egypt's history, beauty and colour. Cruise the longest river in the world on a traditional felucca, discover the largest and most impressive Egyptian temples and share stories with interesting locals over home-cooked meals. Live it up in this country of deserts, bazaars, monuments and unmatched experiences – and come away with a deeper understanding of how Egypt’s past has shaped its future.
Why you’ll love this trip
Get a hands-on history lesson at some of the world's most iconic ancient sites – the Pyramids of Giza (one of the Seven Wonders of the World) and the Sphinx – with an expert local guide.
Embrace countless opportunities to connect with locals and experience their culture. Lose yourself in Cairo's colourful Khan al-Khalili bazaar and share a meal with local communities along the way.
Sail down the Nile on a traditional felucca and experience the excellent Nubian hospitality.
Walk in the footsteps of ancient royalty as you explore the Valley of the Kings and admire the Karnak Temple – the cult temple dedicated to the gods Amun, Mut and Khonsu.
Create your own Egyptian adventure during your free time on this trip – maybe explore Abu Simbel or relax at a local teahouse. The choice is yours!
Is this trip right for you?
Travelling on a felucca (traditional wooden boat) is awesome, but it's not for everyone. You will be sharing a sleeping area with your fellow group members for the night and a shared bathroom facility. You'll sleep outside under the stars on a simple mattress, with some bedding provided. If you do feel the cold, you should consider bringing a sleeping bag.
The walkways around many Egyptian ruins can be uneven, dusty and rocky, so be sure to bring comfortable walking shoes. At large sites such as Valley of the Kings, you can also expect to be walking in the elements for most of the day, so adequate sun protection is essential.
Some hotels in Egypt may not have lifts. You may need to climb stairs with your luggage to reach your hotel room for the night.
Temperatures in the Egypt can be extreme, ranging from very hot to very cold, depending on the season – it can even snow in some places! Layers will come in handy for sun protection as well as warmth.
Overnight train journeys are a fast way to cross long distances, better for the environment and a great travel experience. You will share two-berth air-conditioned cabins, with all bedding provided and western style toilets on board.

As an Australian Westerner, I was hesitant at first. I had believed western propaganda that told me it’s dangerous to travel to Egypt. But I could not have been more incorrect, our safety was ensured the entire time and I truly felt it! Our tour guide Ramy Muhammad was incredible and brought us into his world in such a humorous exciting way!! I’ve only been here 8 days and I feel like I have seen everything and experienced so much of the culture. So much So, that I feel completely satisfied if I never made it back to Egypt. This trip has opened my eyes to trusting new environments and not shutting myself away from incredible experiences. Will reccomend to everyone!

I took my daughter and son to Egypt and we have had the best time ever. Our tour guide Ramy was absolutely excellent. I highly recommend him on every level and we are so grateful for him, and his kindness, honesty and authenticity. We all felt very safe and cared for every step of the way. The trip was amazing and covered all the highlights we needed, even including great shopping tips 🙏🏻💙

Amazing trip! Very well organised, and a good length that didn’t feel rushed. I chose this itinerary for the felucca which was absolutely a highlight, and even the overnight trains were manageable with a sense of adventure. As always a great trip with Intrepid.

Thank you to the intrepid team and group leader Yasser for the best holiday!! Discovering Egypt this way has been the most wholesome experience, incredible activities that range from pyramids and temples, to enjoying hibiscus tea with locals, cruising on the Nile on a felluca and laughing with everyone… could not have happened in a better way!!

An unimaginable trip - however much you expect to be awed by the pyramids, Valley of Kings, the Nile, Abu Simbel and the Grand Cairo museum, your experience will be infinitely more superior. At times the sights and information were overwhelming and will take time to process - such was the magnificence
