Trip Informations
Pursue Mother Nature’s spectacular show of colour and light on this five-day winter adventure of Iceland’s Southern Coast. Experience the highlights of Iceland’s Golden Circle – soaking in the steamy geothermal waters of the Secret Lagoon and marvelling at the eruptions of the Strokkur Geysir. Strap on the crampons and hike across the Solheimajokull Glacier, feeling the mist of thunderous waterfalls on your face. As the sun falls, rug up in your finest thermals and search the night sky for dancing lights.
Why you’ll love this trip
Make the most of Iceland’s long winter nights by tracking down the shimmering lights of the Aurora Borealis.
Revel in an I’m-so-far-from-home moment as you explore one of Europe’s largest ice caps on an adventurous walk over the Solheimajokull Glacier, and bask in the spray of the spectacular Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss falls.
Visit a local art workshop and chat with the artists in a rugged, off-the-beaten-track harbour town.
See the sights that make Iceland’s famous Golden Circle so celebrated, from Gulfoss Waterfall to Strokkur Geysir and Thingvellir National Park.
Soak in a geothermal pool at the lesser-known Secret Lagoon – is there anything more quintessentially Icelandic?
Is this trip right for you?
The northern lights are most visible during the colder months, when temperatures can reach -15 °C or below and snow is very likely. It's important to bring appropriate clothing such as a down jacket, thermals layers, gloves and suitable footwear.
While there is a strong chance of seeing the northern lights in all their colourful glory (thanks to the high latitude, time of year and itinerary), nature makes no guarantees. On the rare occasion that your leader must alter the itinerary due to adverse weather, alternative activities will be offered.
A remote location and high-performing currency are just two reasons Iceland can be an expensive destination. This affects things like museum entrance fees and outdoor activities but is especially noticeable when eating out. Your leader will be able to advise you on ways to get the best value during your visit.

I would strongly recommend this trip to anybody thinking of going to Iceland for the first time: tour leader was excellent - so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all aspects of culture, history, climate, landscape. At the end, I felt I’d seen everything Iceland had to offer - and nothing was too much trouble - it was amazing! Our tour consisted of a variety of nationalities -both couples and single people - and we all got along so well. Icelandic food was also really fresh, well presented and delicious. 😋

Excellent tour. We saw everything we could have hoped for and more. Intrepid attracts great people both as leaders like Gisli and as tourists. Everything was well planned and time was used very efficiently for such a short tour.

I was captivated by the breathtaking landscapes, country's safety and our TL Einar stories. Unforgettable journey that left me eager to return. It was a truly Winter Wonderland, and it felt like a movie. January 1st week was a great time to go for me.

Amazing trip overall. Our guide Gisli was amazing, he really made our trip special and was very friendly. The places we visited were excellent (with the exception of the artists community). Be aware that you won’t do any northern light chases on this trip - northern lights spotting involves staying at a remote hotel and looking at the sky at night. But an amazing trip overall, I would definitely recommend!

The Iceland tour was amazing our tour guide was incredible. He shared his local history knowledge and experiences making the tour so much more fun. Everything ran to schedule with flexibility, being a small group. Iceland has fabulous scenery and the tour far out exceeded our expectations. Thank you to Gisli and Intrepid for a wonderful tour.
