verified
This trip visits places that are at high altitude, and as a result some people can suffer from altitude sickness, regardless of age or physical health. Please see the Medical and health information section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail.
verified
This trip involves a lot of walking to see the sites, and if you trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail, there'll be strenuous hiking. The trip is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. Please bring comfortable footwear suitable to hiking. See the ‘Packing’ section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail.
verified
For those who trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail, you'll be camping with basic facilities. It's definitely the journey as well as the final destination (Machu Picchu) that makes this way of exploring Peru worthwhile.
verified
According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations all visitors to Machu Picchu must follow a pre-determined circuit within the site as a way to relieve crowding. The circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. We will do all that is possible to get everyone traveling in a group on the same route, but be aware that it is possible that members of the same group might be visiting Machu Picchu on a different circuit and not be together during this visit. Once the guided visit concludes, visitors must exit the site and personal exploration of Machu Picchu is not permitted.
verified
Travellers who choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), will not follow the same routes within Machu Picchu. This means that you may not be able to have photos together, overlooking Machu Picchu. This applies to travellers on the same booking or separate bookings.

7. According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations all visitors must follow a pre-determined circuit within the site as a way to relieve crowding. The circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. For travellers who opted for the Quarry Trail and Train options we will endeavour to get everyone traveling in a group on the same circuit. Regardless of the circuit you will enjoy the beauty and grandeur of the site. Travellers completing the Inca Trail will enter Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate.

This tour was an amazing experience on the Inca trail. I was hesitant at first but it was just incredible on every level. Food was great and everything was so well organised. It was lovely to just experience Peru without worrying about the logistics.

This was an incredible once in a lifetime experience. It was hard physically. But to have achieved it made it a sweeter success. I'm proud of myself and the rest of my group. They were supportive and encouraging which made the trip for me.

Our guides were warm, fun, informative, and inviting people! They were coaches on the trail, local friends in town, and amazing supports in moments of weakness (I got sick on their trail). They truly shared their country, showing us its beauty and proud people, while also revealing some Of the challenges of daily life, and showing how our travel had a positive impact on the communities we visited and environments we were in. Their information on the sites we visited more than satisfied me - and I’m the kind to read every plaque when visiting the museum :) And the porters on the trail were always a step ahead!! I would happily recommend this trip and company. Hopefully you get a team as good as I did!

A stunning tour of the Cusco area. The quarry trek was very comfortable and challenging; we returned very proud, tired and smelly! The Quarry trail is not less than the Inca trail: fewer crowds, beautiful land, hot water bottles, and enough energy for a shower and time to relax in aguas calientes! It is a packed tour that left me inspired, educated and amazed. There are things you could never book without intrepid. Ale our guide was sweet, helpful and overall incredible.

A wonderful trip organised by Intrepid. What makes it special is the use of local knowledge, support and a local team. The Inca trail itself is a tough one, especially day 2 when the endless steps and the altitude are are battle of will. One has to be trained and preferably adjusted to the altitude before the hike commences. I arrived two days in advance and still experienced light headache throughout the 1st week. The beauty is stunning, the rewards are immense. I would definitely recommend this trip and if possible extend the time in Peru .....

What an amazing trip. Frank and his team made the Inca trail so memorable and enjoyable. This was my first Intrepid trip, but it won’t be my last. Thanks so much for making my trip to Peru such a wonderful experience. I can’t recommend the tour or the country highly enough. Thank you.

The Inca Trail trek was the hardest thing ive done. But with great challenge comes great reward - the staggering grandeur of the Andes; the mind blowing accomplishment of the Incas and the Peruvians. And the indelible memory of the porters running past us carrying 20kg loads down steep steps that we crept with hiking poles! A humbling and enriching experience.

The Inca Trail is a challenging but rewarding trek, with excellent leaders, chefs and porters. You'll be stretched and remade.
Macchu Picchu, the climax of the trek towards which it has been building. What can I say - fabulous, fascinating and mythical - I wish I could go back in time and see why.
