Is this trip right for you?
verified
This trip takes you to a part of India rarely seen by travellers and is ideal for those who have been to India previously and are keen to explore more.
verified
Entry permits are required to visit Nagaland and Sikkim. While Tuuur will endeavour to obtain these permits on your behalf, government regulations in these regions can change without notice. In the unlikely event that the necessary permits cannot be secured, your itinerary will be adjusted accordingly.
verified
You'll likely be of as much interest to the locals as they are to you – be prepared for plenty of selfies and conversations.
verified
We cover a lot of ground on this trip. There are some long travel days by train and van, including on winding mountain or bumpy local roads, particularly in Nagaland. It's not unusual for journeys to take longer than estimated and travel times to vary from one departure to the next.
verified
Parts of this trip travels to over 2000 m above sea level. It can get colder than you might expect in India, so make sure you check the weather at your time of travelling to help pack appropriately. Please bring a jacket and layers just in case.
verified
Although part of the same time zone, day-time in the north-east part of India is shorter, sun rise can be approx 4 AM during the winter months of November to February - hence the days on this trip will often start earlier than usual during these months, as we’d like to make the most of the available daylight for activities.

This is definitely an expedition. Be prepared for long days of travelling, of staying out of town quite a lot and dusty conditions. But if you are then it’s a fab trip. Finding places tucked away, perched on hillsides, up bumpy tracks is exciting. Seeing how hill tribes live and seeing vibrant, bustling towns. So much contrast! The food was delicious and it was a full on adventure! Our guide, Saby, was from the area which gave us a wonderful insight in to the Assam and Sikkim cultures. We unfortunately were refused entry into Nagaland but hopefully future groups will get the permits in place in time. It’s worth spending time in Kolkata too before or after the trip as there is a lot to see.

I can certainly recommend this trip to anyone who may want to explore a part of India that is still less well known for many travellers. It obviously helps if you also have a well informed, well organised and patient guide too.

What a fabulous opportunity to discover lesser-known regions in India!
Highlights included the Hornbill Festival replete with dancing, singing, drumming and a kaleidoscope of colours, costumes and welcoming participants who turn you into a celebrity; the Kaziranga National Park where one-horned rhinos are almost at hands reach; great outdoor hikes to such unique places as a living root bridge; free time to explore museums such as a Natural History one, Mountaineering, India Museum etc. You can even join in the dancing at cultural events! Buddhists monasteries add to the historical & spiritual experience. Enjoy Indian cuisine and hospitality everywhere!

I very much recomnend India Expedition, Sikkim, Assam & Nagaland. It is an area not yet popular
with many foreign tourists but don't let that put you off, and having an amazing leader Saby made our trip.

North east India is amazing - so many cultures, languages, hill tribes, spectacular scenery, amazing wildlife, variety of food. Sabyasachi, being a local man, was a fantastic trip leader. This route is off the beaten track so there are long journeys, hard roads and some rustic accommodation - and in return you will see a part of India that is seldom seen. At times, you'd think you were in Myanmar, Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan, it is so different to mainstream India. Go with an open mind and you'll be amazed.

Interpid's tour of North East India immerses you in the physical environment of the area which is essential for an understanding of the foothills of the Himalayas. The tour guide's knowledge immersed you in the history and cultures of the area. The tour guide's personality immersed you in the joys of travelling.

The tour was well organized – it took us to regions in India that are less-travelled by foreigners. The culture, history, people, and landscape are fascinating. I felt I appreciate the diversity of India a little bit more. The accommodations were all clean and comfortable. The tour was a lot of fun & highly recommended. Tour leader Bhupesh is a seasoned professional; he is very knowledgeable about anything India; he kept everyone well informed of schedules & plans; Bhupesh was personable, energetic, funny, & demonstrated problem solving skills when we needed to change plans.
