Is this trip right for you?
verified
Japan is best explored on foot and by public transport. You’ll need to be fit enough to spend most of each day on your feet and able to handle your luggage as you navigate busy train stations. We recommend comfortable shoes and packing light.
verified
In some destinations, you may be staying in a minshuku, a Japanese-style inn. It’s a great taste of tradition; however, not everyone finds futon mattresses on the tatami floor, tiny bathrooms and proximity to other guests as comfortable as more Western-style hotels and beds. Read more about it in the Accommodation section of the Essential Trip Information. For some departures, we may swap them with hotels or vice versa depending on seasonal availability. Please consult your booking agent if you need more details.
verified
This trip is a great way to see a lot in a short period of time and it can be part of a longer itinerary if you have more time to explore. You might like to check out Ultimate Japan.

Double rooms in Japanese hotels can be smaller than you may be used to (e.g. 20 sqm). Every effort will be made to accommodate double room requests. However, during busy periods, there may be occasions when we are unable to offer a double room, so a twin room will be provided.

This trip takes you all over the main island of Japan. You're able to have lots of unique experiences and see a lot of different places in just two weeks. It's a good way to get a sense of Japan when you're traveling there for the first time so you know where to go back to if you make a return trip.

This trip was an excellent introduction to all things Japanese. I learned about the history and culture of this wonderful country. We visited the most amazing towns and visited memorable sights. It was just the right balance of group activities and free time to do what you wanted to do. Our amazing guide Dai took such good care of us. We covered a lot of ground with all the logistics taken care of. I highly recommend taking this trip with Intrepid!

Even as a tech-savvy millennial, going to Japan without knowing the language or transit systems would have been very stressful. Group leader Azusa was wonderful and took care of all the tricky bits, so we could fully enjoy our vacation.
With a few days in Tokyo beforehand, this trip was the perfect itinerary. I learned a lot and feel much better equipped to go back on my own someday!

This trip was a great view into the great history and current situation in Japan. The sites we visited were spectacular and will leave you in awe of the scope and magnitude of influence the Shogunate rule. The beauty of Japans landscapes and their temple and shrine construction is on full display. One of the great trips we’ve ever been on.
