Is this trip right for you?

Japan is best explored on foot and by public transport. You’ll need to be fit enough to spend most of each day on your feet and able to handle your luggage as you navigate busy train stations. We recommend comfortable shoes and packing light.
verified
On this trip, you'll get to experience the traditional minshuku (Japanese-style inn) and homestay. These are great chances for a taste of tradition and authentic local life, but you'll be sleeping on futon mattresses on the tatami floor and the facilities will be shared on the property. Read more about it in the Accommodation section of the Essential Trip Information. For some departures, we may swap them with hotels depending on seasonal availability. Please consult your booking agent if you need more details.

This trip is a great way to see a lot in a short period of time and it can be part of a longer itinerary if you have more time to explore. You might like to check out Ultimate Japan.

Double rooms in Japanese hotels can be smaller than you may be used to (e.g. 20 sqm). Every effort will be made to accommodate double room requests. However, during busy periods, there may be occasions when we are unable to offer a double room, so a twin room will be provided.

I would highly recommend the intrepid Land of the Rising Sun- Japan tour. We had the holiday of a lifetime and got to learn about the Japanese culture. Our tour leader Benji was excellent. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and approachable. The tour was a good mix of busy city life and rural towns. It has given us a taste of Japan and I would love to go back and see more.

Overall the tour was very well organised.
The itinerary was well set out, giving people a variety of options and included activities. The timetables for trains and buses ran smoothly. Never any undue pressure to meet deadlines. Getting to our accommodation was smooth transition.

From the tour induction, to the final check out, each trip and activity progressed smoothly. Our tour leader continuously updated us on where and when to meet for each day’s activities. At no time did I feel under pressure with meeting travel time frames. We all got on so well, and that speaks volumes for the organisation, and tour leader.

Land of the Rising Sun was an unforgettable experience that had great balance between many different aspects of Japan. It took us to the big cities and to incredible regional locations, it balanced visiting common tourist locations with quieter sites and provided an enjoyable pace. The small group with a guide allowed us to relax and enjoy while being with people we got to know and could trust. It was a safe, spectacular and wholesome tour I would 100% recommend.

My husband and I LOVED this trip. There was a great mix of activities and each location had its own unique flavor. We loved the “off the beaten path” experiences, like the homestay, biking and sake making tour, learning about history, and seeing a wide variety of sites. Highly recommend.
