Veer off the beaten track to seek out elephants, hippos, leopards and lions against the impressive backdrop of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha. verified
Spend the night in a Maasai village to learn about life from community elders, visit a widows’ community and maybe even learn to throw a spear.
verified
Take a cooking class in a small village and learn some Kenyan recipes, then share your creations at a camp dinner under the stars.
Is this trip right for you?
verified
This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your own tent and getting the best possible views of the Big Five. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have drop-down windows, which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. verified
In Loita Hills, you'll be staying in a secure bush camp with basic facilities, heated bucket showers in the morning, and no WiFi, but the rewards of experiencing Maasai culture should more than make up for the lack of creature comforts.
verified
As the early bird catches the worm, the early camper sights the animals. There will be many early starts either to make use of the better safari time or beat the morning traffic on long travel days.

This trip exceeded every one of my expectations. As one of three celiacs on the trip, our cook, Kennedy made such an effort to ensure our food was gluten free and we felt safe. Do not hesitate to take this trip if you have allergies. Our guide, Susan was incredibly knowledgeable, kind and enthusiastic. Our driver, Martin made sure we always felt safe on the roads and amazingly got us everywhere on time. We saw every animal the Masai Mara had to offer and the cultural activities added so much to the experience. 10/10 would recommend!

What a brilliant trip! The perfect mix of culture and nature. Yes there is a lot of camping, but it's comfortable and safe. Trip leader Susan and driver Martin were brilliant, while cook Kennedy ensured all dietary requirements met. Brilliant trip!

I highlybrecommend Intrepid and this trip. This was one of the best trips I've done. It was a perfect mix of wildlife and culture. We saw every majour animal in Kenya and learned about and saw first hand how the locals live. The Intrepid staff made sure we are all safe and comfortable and happy. The camping facilities were very nice. The food was great. The schedule was tight, but this allowed us to see an incredible amount in a short space of time. The truck was very comfortable with plenty of space and had electricity sockets for every seat to charge phones.
Intrepid is a great sustainable travel company that has made a real positive impact on local communities and is supporting them financially and through education and project facilitation- makes me proud that I chose them.

This is an excellent itinerary with manageable drive distances, great activities and chances to see loads of wildlife, while also diving into the local Maasai culture on a deeper level than the average tour. With the elevation, nights can be colder than one might expect from being on the equator, so pack accordingly! Facilities and showers were better than I expected. Sometimes hot water runs out, but I anticipated only cold ones, so it was fine. Overall a great value and fantastic trip!
