Trip Informations
Join a women’s-only adventure for an unforgettable expedition to the remote and less-travelled reaches of Morocco. Begin in Marrakech, then set off to experience the side of Morocco they don’t tell you about in the guidebooks. Break bread with Amazigh families in remote homes, see how an artist co-op is empowering female rug-weavers in small villages, take in the beauty of the far-flung M’goun Valley over four days of hiking with the region’s first local female guide, and enjoy the singing and dancing of Moroccan women in cultural ceremonies in rural communities.
Why you’ll love this trip
Find out what it means to be female in Morocco as you travel with an all-women group, a local female leader, the M’Goun Valley’s first local female guide and meet plenty of inspiring women along the way.
Learn from the best as you take part in a traditional couscous cooking lesson, find out how to make fresh khobz (flatbread), and be welcomed into the home of a local woman in Marrakech for a meal you won’t forget.
Spend four days hiking between remote villages in the M’Goun Valley, accompanied by a local female guide who will bring the region to life with her incomparable knowledge and experience.
Dine on delicious local cuisine as you enjoy a private performance by The Houariyates – a female music band that will fill the room and your heart with joyful songs praising and celebrating women.
Visit the historic town of Ait Benhaddou and its iconic mudbrick ksar. You’ll soon see why this eye-catching site has been used as a backdrop in many famous films.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip involves walking from 4 to 7 hours on Day 3 to 6. The walks will lead you through picturesque valleys and rivers. The terrain may be unstable, rocky and hilly. Consider appropriate footwear and necessary clothing, including a warm jacket and raincoat.
You’ll need to bring a 3/4 season sleeping bag on this trip. Even though you’ll be staying in guesthouses and gites, they may not be heated, so a warm sleeping bag is essential.
The village accommodation on this trip is simple and you’ll be sharing rooms with other female travellers. On Day 5 there are two big rooms for the group so you may share your room with up to five other travellers. Bathroom facilities are shared, but you can expect a hot shower each evening.

This was one of the most interesting and enjoyable trips I have been on. Even though I'm not one who hikes often, I enjoyed getting out into nature and seeing the incredible landscapes of Morocco that I probably wouldn't have had the chance to see if I travelled on my own. Don't forget to bring water sandals, a sleeping bag (if you get cold at night), cash to buy souvenirs and products along the way, and coloured pens/candies for the local children you'll meet! And a special shoutout to Chaimae, one of the most wonderful guides I ever had the privilege of meeting, and all the incredible locals who helped with the trip (Malika, Fatima, Mohammed, and Bassou).

Loved spending time with our outstanding Amazigh guides, Naima and Mama Bia - confident, strong women who guided us expertly through valleys, gorges and water-crossings. They were the best part of the trip and a real testament to Intrepid. The hiking portion of this trip is very much off the beaten track - you will likely see no or few foreigners, and you will cross through (and stay in) rural villages, untouched by tourism / the 21st century. (Wifi may be limited / non-existent). Seems the demographic of this trip skews slightly older. Am in my 30s and found the hiking itself to be extremely easy. Bring a kindle or book as there is some downtime in the villages after arrival.

A visit to a land totally different from my life in London. Beautiful mountains, bird song, green valleys, warm welcoming locals, yummy food. A little changed place where people live happy lives in a basic way and the community is very strong. The food is so healthy and all home/field cooked. This trip is a treat and the walking is manageable for. mid fitness person, of any age. I had a real sense of achievement upon crossing the river and upon reaching the highest part of our journey.

Such an authentic experience with wonderful natural cultural exchanges. This trip really allowed me to see how wonderfully warm, kind and helpful the Moroccan people are. Breathtaking scenery, wonderful food combined with beautiful women. Lifetime memories and I can’t recommend intrepid this trip and our beautiful guide Naima and crew highly enough.

This women’s tour was just fabulous. The trekking in the Atlas Mountains with the superb guide Naima was incredible. Naima made everyone feel capable of the trekking with her cheerful attitude and knowing she had out safety and comfort foremost in her mind was very reassuring. The scenery is breathtaking and the trekking whilst challenging is done at a steady pace and was inclusive for all. The local helpers Mama Bia and Fatima were legendary and became friends over the week together. We also had a wonderful cook with us on the trip who produced the most incredible food in the mountains for our lunches. If you are thinking of this tour don’t hesitate to book it, you will not regret it. Friendships were made through shared experiences that won’t be forgotten.

This was an amazing experience and the tour surpassed all my expectations. Our tour leader Naima was fantastic. She’s friendly, organised and diligent, and made the tour run seamlessly. The hiking was a little tougher for me at some points as a novice but both Naima and Mama Bia gave me great support! Being able to connect with like minded women in a women’s expedition tour was so great. I would recommend this tour to anyone!

Ensure to use good walking shoes and bring water shoes and pants that can be folded to knees. Waking sticks are great assets. Big youth/school age children, do get to know and embrace them, they are curious lots. Gift of some sorts (pen? Bonbon, cookies? With little plastic contents possible pls) are great and an ice breaker. Rose, argan, carpets shopping opportunity from women cooperative otw back. A niche tour, we bonded well. Certain level of fitness a must.
