Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Choose your own adventure on your way to the mother of all Inca cities – Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Test yourself on the challenging Classic Inca or Inca Quarry trails or take the train for a more leisurely experience.
Visit the evergreen Amazon. Explore rainforest trails with a local guide, look out for wildlife and medicinal plants, and stay in a tranquil jungle lodge overnight.
Sleep in a mud-brick hut on the shore of vast, ancient Lake Titicaca during a homestay in a traditional Andean community and visit the floating reed islands of Uros.
Explore hectic La Paz, where Indigenous Aymara and Quechua traditions flourish in contemporary Bolivia – a living example of the resilient traditional communities of South America.
Trek the Inca Trail, Inca Quarry Trail or take the scenic train route – either way, you'll be travelling responsibly with a company that cares about balancing profit and purpose. Tuuur is the largest B Corp certified operator on the Inca Trail and we’re committed to operating our treks for the benefit of all.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip visits places that are at high altitude, and as a result some people can suffer from altitude sickness, regardless of age or physical health. Please see the Medical and health information section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail.
This trip involves a lot of walking to see the sites, and if you trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail, there'll be strenuous hiking. The trip is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. Please bring comfortable footwear suitable to hiking. See the ‘Packing’ section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail.
For those who trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail, you'll be camping with basic facilities. It's definitely the journey as well as the final destination (Machu Picchu) that makes this way of exploring Peru worthwhile.
Temperatures in the Amazon can fluctuate from daytime humidity to night-time chill. Insects, especially mosquitoes, are common. We recommend tropical-strength insect repellent and light cotton clothing that covers your arms and legs, with warmer layers for the evening.
This trip forms part of many longer combination trips. Some of your fellow travellers may have started earlier or be travelling further, and some will be doing different routes to Machu Picchu.
According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations all visitors to Machu Picchu must follow a pre-determined circuit within the site as a way to relieve crowding. The circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. We will do all that is possible to get everyone traveling in a group on the same route, but be aware that it is possible that members of the same group might be visiting Machu Picchu on a different circuit and not be together during this visit. Once the guided visit concludes, visitors must exit the site and personal exploration of Machu Picchu is not permitted.
Travellers who choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), will not follow the same routes within Machu Picchu. This means that you may not be able to have photos together, overlooking Machu Picchu. This applies to travellers on the same booking or separate bookings.
Can't decide which trek is for you? Itinerary
See Machu Picchu from all angles on a high-flying Peruvian adventure
The wonders of Peru and Bolivia await as you walk beneath the Amazon Jungle's lush canopy, trek the llama-filled plains of the Sacred Valley and stroll the cobblestone streets of Cusco on this 15-day journey from Lima to La Paz. Search for monkeys and medicinal plants in the Amazon, tackle the ancient road to Machu Picchu, experience a homestay in a traditional community on the shore of Lake Titicaca and finish in La Paz, where Indigenous communities continue to form the city’s cultural fabric. With the option to see Machu Picchu by trek or by train, plus the expert knowledge of local leaders, this trip will no doubt leave you breathless – in more ways than one.

Important notes
1. There are a limited number of Inca Trail permits so we recommend booking well in advance.
2. Full passport details are required at the time of booking. The passport you travel with must match the booking details provided to us. This will be used to apply for your Inca Trail permit, and if any info doesn’t match your passport, the Inca authorities will refuse your entry. Delays in providing this information or changes made after booking may incur fees and changes to your itinerary. Availability of other options cannot be guaranteed.
3. At the time of booking, please advise whether you would like to hike the classic Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or take the train. If you don’t advise us of your preference, hiking the Inca Trail will be selected for you as the default option, when Inca Trail permits are available.
4. A single supplement is available if you’d prefer not to share a room on this trip. The single supplement excludes Days 2 & 3 (Amazon Jungle) and Day 12 (Homestay) where you will be in shared accommodation and is subject to availability. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.
5. This trip starts in Lima on Day 1 at 2pm.
6. The Inca Trail closes in February to allow cleaning and restoration works. If the trek portion of your trip starts in February, you will be automatically booked to hike the Quarry Trail.
7. As you can choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), you may be joined by other Tuuur and/or non-Tuuur travellers. There is also a small chance you may be the only traveller from your group on your selected option.
8. Passport holders of the United States and South Africa need a visa to enter Bolivia. We recommend that you obtain this visa in advance from your nearest Bolivian embassy. Not obtaining the visa in advance is likely to cause long delays at the border. Please refer to the Passports, visa and entry requirements section of the Essential Trip information for more details.
9. According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations all visitors must follow a pre-determined circuit within the site as a way to relieve crowding. The circuit-based entrance tickets are available on a first come first serve basis. For travellers who opted for the Quarry Trail and Train options we will endeavour to get everyone traveling in a group on the same circuit. Regardless of the circuit you will enjoy the beauty and grandeur of the site. Travellers completing the Inca Trail will enter Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate.

An incredible adventure! The Amazon and Inca Trail were unforgettable, stunning scenery, amazing people, and outstanding leadership from our guide, who made every step meaningful and fun. Be prepared, it’s physically demanding, even though it’s well known. September/October was perfect. Cold nights, read the info carefully and pack everything recommended!

Intrepid does a wonderful job of putting together a package, which means that we are able to see and do things which would be impossible for most people in the time frame required. Intrepid did not disappoint, first class tour, well organised, excellent tour guide (Carmen). Good accommodation which was in my opinion in great locations which I think is important. Intrepid helped also in giving me an opportunity to culturally interact, giving us a feeling that as tourists we may be contributing to the local economy and to people's lives.

Jean Pierre (JP) is an absolutely amazing group leader. He is so passionate on what he does that it is infectious. He was more than a leader to our little group of strangers, he was family. He always checked in making sure we were all okay, going above and beyond to support us, providing us with wonderful food recommendations (he was never wrong), places to go visit, and providing us with details of the itinerary for the following day. Personally, I never came across any bad meal options or was led astray on the places to visit. He was my trek leader on my hike, making sure that we were never to far apart and so very encouraging and positive when it got tough. He is an inspiration of knowledge and wisdom on his homeland of Peru, but especially Cuzco. Thank you JP for making my first trip with intrepid such a memorable one. He is truely a credit to the intrepid team who are so lucky to have him as a leader. X
