Trip Informations
Take a trip to paradise and climb aboard a traditional dhoni boat for a sailing trip through the Maldives. On this eight-day getaway, you’ll spend your days sailing, swimming and snorkelling among colourful corals, white-sand beaches, mangroves and tropical fish. Maybe see dolphins, turtles, manta rays and nurse sharks and watch the gorgeous sunsets to end each day of bliss. Have tea and locally made sweets with the locals on tiny islands, be treated to a traditional music and dance performance after dinner on the beach and learn how to make Madivian cuisine with a cooking demonstration and breakfast. With a local crew and leader by your side, you’ll be sure to see all the best bits of island living!
Why you’ll love this trip
Soak up the beauty of bright blue waters, white sands, palm trees and marine life with one full week cruising aboard a private, traditional dhoni in the Maldives.
Swim and snorkel every day with tropical fish by your side – you might even be lucky enough to swim with manta rays, stingrays, triggerfish, turtles, reef sharks and nurse sharks – the Maldives is home to the biggest population in the world!
Snorkel at Biyaadhoo Reef to see the resident green turtles and schools of red-tooth triggerfish and bannerfish. Explore the colourful coral garden near Maafushi, with its beautiful drop off full of tabletop corals and oriental sweetlips.
Be treated to fresh, local Maldivian cuisine with a cooking demonstration where you’ll learn how to make traditional mas huni and Maldivian tuna curry. Then, have tea at a small, locally owned cafe.
Enjoy a beachside dinner with traditional East African Bodu Beruand Langiri folk music, and dance with the locals as the sun goes down, moving to the beat of the drums.
Is this trip right for you?
This trip is aboard a traditional dhoni (a traditional wooden motor sailing boat). All cabins have twin bunk beds and will have ensuite bathrooms, are on the lower deck. It’s recommended that you pack light, as cabins are cosy.
All cabins will experience a light engine noise when the ship is moving (and occasionally when you drop anchor). It’s probably worth packing earplugs if you’re a light sleeper.
The majority of this trip takes place on a sailing boat and need to feel comfortable moving about the vessel, including the use of stairs. With that said, sea legs come naturally to some but not so much for others – it's recommended that you bring sea sickness medication just in case.
A good swimming ability is essential on this trip to enjoy all activities.
Time on the water also means time in the sun. Remember to pack sun protection, such as sunscreen and a hat, and drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. See ‘Essential Trip Information’ below for a full packing list.
If you’re travelling with your own group of friends or family and would like to book a private departure on this sailing trip, our Tailor-Made team will be happy to help: https://www.tuuur.com/tailor-made https://www.tuuur.com/tailor-made (https://www.tuuur.com/tailor-made)

Important notes
This trip is operated onboard a traditional dhoni boat.
This trip starts on day 1 at 12pm at Velana International airport in Male and finishes at 9am on day 8 back at Velana International airport, Male.
ACCOMMODATION ONBOARD THE BOAT
This trip is accommodated entirely on board a dhoni style boat (a traditional wooden motor sailing boat). All cabins have one set of twin bunk beds, an ensuite bathroom, and all cabins are located on the lower deck.
Rooms are allocated on arrival by our skipper according to group composition, which means it is not possible to reserve or guarantee any specific berth or cabin. Single passengers will be paired up with another single passenger of the same gender in a twin bunk bed cabin. If you’d prefer not to share a cabin, a single cabin supplement is available at an additional charge and is subject to availability. Couples travelling together on the same booking number will be placed in a cabin together.
While not everyone may feel entirely comfortable living in such close quarters, those who are looking to revel in the adventure and exhilaration of a sailing trip usually find any discomfort from cramped living conditions is more than made up for by the whole experience.
DIETARY REQUIREMENTS:
Should you have a special diet requirement (for example vegetarian, celiac, vegan, severe food allergies) it's essential that you inform us or your sales agent of the specific details at least 10 days prior to departure, so as the cook onboard can request the necessary food supplies.
SNORKELLING
There are many opportunities for snorkelling during your Maldives Sailing trip. Diving masks, snorkels and fins are provided onboard the vessel and are for use by all passengers. Some passengers choose to bring their own equipment, however this is a personal choice.

I can’t recommend this trip enough. Sailing is the only option I would ever suggest to people who want to get a taste of the Maldives. Moosa and the crew were truly exceptional. I had the best time with the group.

Beyond my expectations! An incredible way to discover the best part of the Maldives and, especially, its marine life. Mousa was the best guide for this trip, as he is very passionate and always happy to share his knowledge with us. Highly recommended if you want to see the authenticity of the Maldives out of the resorts, spending a lot of your time snorkeling among colorful fish, manta rays, sharks and sea turtles.

If you like snorkeling do it. With a boat you can go to remote places that are far from resorts and be able to experience the sea life on it's purest. For a boat it's quite spacious, but don't expect resort levels of luxury. Our tour leader Moosa was very patient, enthusiastic and gave us a lot of information on subjects varying from fish to history. And if you like fishing the crew are more than happy if you join them with a smile and catch all together your dinner that the chef will cook.

If you want to see stunning marine life in and out of the water, snorkel leisurely at pristine reefs without any other tourists besides your companions/trip leader, and eat delicious food, book. With Moosa as your trip leader, it’ll be unforgettable.

My Maldives sailing trip was unforgettable! I spotted turtles, sharks, manta rays, stingrays, and countless vibrant fishes. The highlight? A pod of dolphins surfing beside our sailing boat and greeting the very first morning of 2026. Tour Leader Moosa and the whole crew went above and beyond to making this trip perfect! Highly recommended!

This is a trip that involves two incredible worlds – above the water and below. Eight days aboard a traditional boat with strangers that very soon become friends – and the chance to view some of the most beautiful sealife the world has to offer. If I could do it all again tomorrow, I would – and I wouldn't change a thing...

If you love the being on the water, soaking up the sun, snorkelling 2/3 times a day with fish, sharks, rays and dolphins, eating cooked breakfast lunch and dinner (veg/vegan/GF options too) then do not hesitate to book this trip! The crew are great and leader and captain full of local knowledge. HIGHLY recommend!

Beautiful trip, really focused on snorkeling which is perfect. It's really nice to snorkel as much in warm water and to see a lot.
